Course Overview and Target Audience:
This course is designed for registered dietitians, nurses, nurse practitioners and other clinical personnel involved with the clinical care of the surgical weight loss patient. This course will focus on nutritional implications and treatments for the more challenging weight loss surgery patients: those who seek surgery who have renal disease or a renal transplant, pre- and post-op patients diagnosed with cancer, pregnant weight loss surgery patients, and implications of the LVAD. Presentations will include case studies.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify pre- and post-operative nutritional implications and treatment for individuals with history of renal disease or renal transplant seeking weight loss surgery.
- Understand oncology treatments and nutritional implications in individuals with a history of weight loss surgery; decision process in utilizing nutrition support; formulations.
- Identify nutrients of concern affecting pregnancy and fetal outcomes in females with a history of weight loss surgery.
- Understand use of Left Ventricular Assist Device for Heart Failure and implications for weight loss surgery patients
