Course Overview and Target Audience:
This course is designed to provide an overview of basic and advanced practice issues for managing the bariatric surgery patient.  It addresses inpatient and outpatient issues pertinent to Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Surgical Technologists, Registered Dietitians, and other clinical personnel who are involved with the clinical care of the bariatric surgery patient.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the activity, participants should be able to:

• Understand algorithm for management of the intra-operative bariatric surgery patient
• Identify candidates for revisional surgery and understand revisional surgery options
• Examine specialty needs of medically complicated bariatric surgery patients and review appropriate care
• Review trends in patient and staff education and understand innovative methods of patient/staff preparation
• Discuss risks, benefits and alternatives of band, bypass and sleeve and identify rationale for each surgery
