Course Overview and Target Audience:
This is an ASMBS course designed for practicing bariatric surgeons and physicians involved in the treatment of obesity and metabolic disorders. Sleeve gastrectomy is gaining popularity as a primary bariatric operation for the treatment of morbid obesity. This course features the techniques and outcomes of sleeve gastrectomy including long-term data to support the sleeve gastrectomy as a primary bariatric operation. Additionally, this program will also focus on complications inherent to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
Course Objective:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Define the techniques and outcomes of sleeve gastrectomy
- Explain common complications following sleeve gastrectomy procedure for weight loss and their preventive measures
- Identify revisional strategies for weight loss failures after sleeve gastrectomy procedure
- Apply the technique of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and comprehend the single-incision concept
Maintenance of Certification:
For bariatric surgeons, surgeons new to the field of bariatric surgery, and primary clinicians, this event will provide CME in their specific specialty to comply with Maintenance of Certification (MOC) in the following areas: (1) Patient Care, (2) Medical Knowledge, (5) Systems-Based Practice, and (6) Practice-Based Learning and Improvement.
