Letter from the President

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I join with the entire Executive Council and the ASMBS Program Committees led by Ninh Nguyen, MD, and Dan Herron, MD, and Integrated Health’s Maureen Quigley, RN, and Karen Shultz, RN, to invite you to the 29th Annual Meeting of the ASMBS in the very beautiful and always popular San Diego, California. This final stand-alone meeting of the ASMBS before starting our new Obesity Week endeavor promises to exceed expectations.

This year, the ASMBS has seen a number of important initiatives come to fruition including a focus on returning value to the members through robust work in the committees, strong messaging around the biology of obesity and mechanism of action of bariatric surgery and the evolution of the ASMBS Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence Program. You will see evidence of these endeavors throughout the program with many committee-developed symposiums and a first ever ASMBS Town Hall Meeting where leadership and membership come together in an open forum.

Other highlights include:

Education
ASMBS is the recognized leader for providing the highest quality, state of the art education.  This year’s meeting includes 22 pre-plenary course offerings and three hands-on labs.  The two and a half day plenary kicks off with the Top Papers, followed by concurrent sessions that include abstract presentations, video sessions, symposiums, invited lecturers, interactive discussions, panels and debates all led by prominent speakers from around the world.

Products and Services
Take advantage of an outstanding Exhibit Hall rich with providers who have the tools, technology, products and services to help you find new ways to solve challenges and meet patient care goals.  Be sure to look for the exhibitors who have taken the extra step to join the ASMBS Corporate Council, a coalition working with leadership to advance our field.

While in the exhibit hall, be sure to visit the Bariatric Skills Acquisition Center where you can practice skills and participate in lively competitions.

Also, new this year is the Integrated Health Expo Center highlighting products and services especially relevant to the multidisciplinary team.

Networking Events
Connect with friends and colleagues from around the world during the Welcome Reception, International Reception, After Dark, State Chapter Meetings and other events.

I look forward to seeing you in San Diego as we come together learn what we need for today to prepare for the future.
